Walmart Will Deliver Groceries Right Into your Fridge, Even if You’re Not Home…

Imagine coming home from work to find a fully-stocked fridge! ?

Back in June, Walmart first announced that it was planning to test a new InHome Delivery service in three US. cities. Now, this service is up and running for over one million customers in Pittsburgh, PA, Kansas City (Missouri and Kansas) and Vero Beach, FL. Walmart said in a statement earlier this week,

We’re obsessed with simplifying grocery shopping and finding ways to make our customers’ lives easier. That’s why InHome goes the extra step so that our customers can live their lives without worrying about making it to the store or being home to accept a delivery.

Here’s how the new Walmart InHome Delivery works:

Customers who live in one of the cities where InHome Delivery is currently available can visit InHome.Walmart.com to see if their address is eligible.
Eligible customers will then need to choose either the kitchen or garage fridge as the delivery spot.
Walmart will then install smart technology in your front door (an innovative Level Lock inside your existing deadbolt) or install a GoControl Smart Garage Door Controller and you’ll be ready for InHome delivery. These required smart devices/locks cost $49.95 but you will score free professional installation and set up of the device.
Once the lock is installed, score an entire month of unlimited InHome Deliveries for free! After the first month, you will be charged $19.95 per month but you can cancel or pause the service at any time.
When you are ready for a delivery, just order your Walmart groceries online; note that a $30 minimum purchase is required per delivery.
The Walmart delivery associate will send a notification as they head to your neighborhood, and again when they arrive at your door.
At the time of InHome Delivery, associates will use the installed smart entry technology to gain access to the designated delivery area. The smart lock they install lets the associate open your house or garage door one time, only during your delivery window and only with your specific order. Once your door has been re-locked, they can’t open it again until the next delivery.
The delivery associates will also be wearing a camera, giving you the ability to watch the deliveries remotely. If the camera isn’t recording, your door won’t open.
After knocking, the associate will enter (they even cover their shoes before stepping inside) and lock your door behind them and then heads directly to your fridge. The live stream that started at your front door continues as your groceries are arranged neatly in your fridge, and ends when the associate leaves and locks your door behind them. You can watch it all on your phone live, or view a recording on the InHome app at your convenience.

Walmart reports that bringing InHome Delivery to three cities is just the first step for this new program. The company said that it’s looking forward to bringing this service to even more customers in the months to come.

It’s also working on adding a feature that will accept InHome returns for items purchased on Walmart.com so you can just leave them on the counter and their InHome Delivery associate will return the items on their behalf!
