Costco Suspends Food Samples Due to Coronavirus Concerns

If you’ve been to Costco recently, you may have noticed that it looks a little different these days. It’s not just the larger-than-usual crowds or the empty shelves where hand sanitizer and toilet paper used to be. It’s also the complete absence of food samples!

Although there has been no official word on whether free samples have been removed from all locations company-wide, but some stores have stopped distributing them to help limit the communicability of coronavirus! There is no telling when Costco’s free samples will return, as this will depend on how the coronavirus situation unfolds.

Costco’s free samples have been one of the fun perks of warehouse club shopping for years, and they will most certainly be missed. In the meantime, there’s always the food court! Just be prepared to show your membership card.

Starbucks Suspends the Use of Reusable Cups Amid Coronavirus Concerns

As Starbucks lovers know, the chain offers a 10¢ discount for customers who bring in their own reusable cups. In an open letter to stakeholders, Rossann Williams, EVP and President, U.S. company-operated business and Canada, announced that Starbucks is pausing the use of personal cups and “for here” ware to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

First and foremost, the health and well-being of our partners and customers remains top of mind and our highest priority, and we will continue to act thoughtfully and courageously despite the disruption and uncertainty COVID-19 brings to our daily lives. We will continue to stay close to our partners and local health officials, and we are optimistic this will be a temporary situation.

Starbucks has also updated cleaning procedures across all locations nationwide, and the company has canceled all business-related air travel through the end of March. These changes, along with the suspended use of reusable cups, have already taken effect.

Krispy Kreme Will Take the Leap Into National Doughnut Delivery on 2/29

Krispy Kreme has been testing online ordering and delivery in select U.S. markets since 2018. This year, the doughnut shop is using 2020’s extra day to make fans’ dreams of having fresh doughnuts delivered come true! On Saturday, February 29th, Krispy Kreme will begin delivering from nearly all of its U.S. shops.

To celebrate, Krispy Kreme will also deliver free doughnuts to hospitals on February 29th to celebrate some other very special deliveries – Leap Day babies!

Parents, families, doctors, nurses, and other maternity ward staff at hospitals within 10 miles of participating Krispy Kreme shops can post on social media when a baby is delivered on Leap Day. Just note the hospital, tag @KrispyKreme, and use the hashtag #KrispyKremeSpecialDelivery to have five dozen FREE doughnuts delivered to the hospital!

“Krispy Kreme doughnut delivery is pretty sweet, and so are Leap Day babies. Using 2020’s extra day to make the leap to national delivery, while celebrating Leap Day babies, will be a fun moment for our brand and fans,” said Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer for Krispy Kreme.
