Arts and crafts retailer, A.C. Moore, is planning to close all stores, according to a press release from parent company, Nicole Crafts. A.C. Moore currently operates 145 stores and employs over 5,000 people. CEO Anthony Piperno said in a statement:

For over 30 years, our stores have been servicing the creative community with a vast selection of art and craft materials, with one common focus, the customer. Unfortunately, given the headwinds facing many retailers in today’s environment, it made it very difficult for us to operate and compete on a national level.

While company officials haven’t revealed exactly when the closures would begin, as many as 40 of the closing locations will eventually reopen as Michaels Stores. Michaels CEO, Mark Cosby, said:

This transaction enables us to further expand our presence in strategic markets and serve even more customers both online and in store. We are looking forward to re-opening these stores under the Michaels name in 2020 and welcoming new team members.

Although ACMoore.com is no longer accepting online orders, the store will honor and ship any orders that were previously placed through the website.
